What inspired this session?

The inspiration behind this session actually came from some of my princess portrait sessions I had done for some younger girls.  This teen loved the idea of princess style portraits; so we decided her prom dress would be perfect!  I didn’t even know it was red until she arrived at the session.  I was thrilled because I knew she would look gorgeous in it, and the location was perfect to showcase the gorgeous gown.  The icing on the cake was her sweet dog, Winter, and his little bow tie!

What was your favorite thing about this session/senior?

There were so many things I loved about this session.  First and foremost, she is the daughter of my kids’ teacher!!  I have twins that just finished 4th grade, and their teacher loved my photography; so it was awesome that she asked me to do her daughter’s senior portraits! I also love that she brought her prom dress! I wish more girls would do that! And her dog making an appearance for the photos was awesome too!

What lenses and other equipment did you use?

For this shoot, I used my Tamron 70-200 2.8 lens (https://amzn.to/2xxPMP0). Most shots were taken at f/2.8 and between 135-200 mm.  I used a reflector for some of the shots but other than that, just natural light.

What is your #1 tip for marketing to seniors that you’d like other photographers to know?

I’m excited to be focusing more on seniors this year.  As far as marketing and getting your info out there, be sure to tag local high schools in your Instagram posts!  I’ve had several inquiries by tagging and/or hashtags.  Also, never underestimate the power of word of mouth!  I usually ask the parents and the seniors if they will share on social media and refer me to their friends and family!  You may assume they will, but I always make sure to ask them, and they are always happy to do so! 90% of my business is referrals and word of mouth!
